Who Provides Obstetric Care?
Physicians, certified nurse-midwives, and nurse practitioners are all qualified to provide prenatal and postpartum care. At our practice, nurse-midwives and physicians attend labor and delivery, and our midwives assist physicians during cesarean births. This collaborative team approach gives you personalized midwifery care with the security of physician expertise.
What to Expect During Your Pregnancy
Most women have their first obstetric appointment around 8 weeks of pregnancy. You will typically be seen every four weeks until 28 weeks, every two weeks until 36 weeks, and then weekly until delivery. Each visit includes checks of your weight, blood pressure, and your baby’s growth and heartbeat, plus time for your questions. Is Obstetric Care Covered by Insurance?
Most health insurance plans cover obstetric care, though exact benefits vary from policy to policy. Contact your health insurer to learn which prenatal, delivery, and postpartum services are included. Who Needs Obstetric Care?
Any woman who is pregnant or thinks she may be pregnant should contact an obstetrician or midwife. After asking about your menstrual cycle and symptoms, our team will determine when your first appointment should be scheduled. Most insurance plans allow you to see an OB/GYN or midwife without a referral from a primary care provider, so you do not need to wait.

Can I have a vaginal birth after a previous cesarean?
Many women are candidates for a trial of labor after cesarean (TOLAC). Your provider will review your history and help you decide.
Do I need a referral to see an obstetrician?
Most insurance plans allow you to see an OB/GYN or midwife without a referral.
What warning signs during pregnancy should prompt a call?
